Ingredients for your Venison Potjie Recipe:

125 ml sunflower oil
4 medium carrots, sliced
2 medium onions, sliced
2 cloves garlic, crushed
10 ml chopped fresh thyme
1 kg venison, cubed
250 g rindless bacon, chopped
500 ml port or dry red wine
6 medium potatoes, chopped


Venison Potjie Recipe – Method

Pack one layer of briquettes onto the coal grid inside your PotjieKing™ and place a couple fire lighters in the bottom section and get that going. Once the briquettes have stopped smoking, place your Potjie pot onto the PotjieKing™ to heat up.

  • Heat the oil in a number 3 potjie pot and sauté the carrots, onions, and garlic for about 5 minutes.
  • Add the thyme, meat, bacon and port and simmer, covered, for 3 hours.
  • If needed place a few additional briquettes in the PotjieKing.
  • Add the potatoes and simmer for a further 30 to 45 minutes.
  • Serve with Rice.
