Calypso Steak Recipe

Spruce up your steaks with a simple yet superb marinade this Heritage (BRAAI) Day


Ingredients for your Calypso Steak Recipe:

1/2 cup rum
1/4 cup lime juice
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon minced fresh parsley
2 teaspoons minced root ginger
1 teaspoon ground allspice
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
2 – 4 steaks (+-250g each) We used Rib Eye


Calypso Steak Recipe – Method

  • Combine all of the ingredients except the steaks in a shallow baking dish.
  • Add the steaks and marinate in the refrigerator for 4 to 6 hours.
  • Turn the steaks halfway through marinating time.

Pack 12 briquettes onto the coal grid inside your PotjieKing™ and place a couple fire lighters in the bottom section and get that going. Once the briquettes have turned grey / whitish, you are good to go. As this recipe has rum in it you can expect a few flare-ups. Keep the bottom door closed to restrict the air to the fire.

  • Remove steaks from the marinade and place on the braai grid.
  • Cook for 4 to 5 minutes, then turn.
  • Continue braaing until your steaks are how you like them.
  • Serve and enjoy!
